It has no trouble picking up the sound of the PC running, mind you, so there is a fair amount of feedback. This helps, but I feel like with input maxed out and a 30db boost, I should be worried about peaking. I have an onboard soundcard (Realtek), and I've used the software it comes with to provide a 30db boost to mic input, and I've set input to 100. I bought a Shure SM57, but still have what seems to be very "quiet" input. I browsed the web and saw this complaint all over the place, and the company seemed to provide no support, so I figured I might as well get a "real" mic.

THAT said, the only mic I had was a Blue Snowball, and it had really "quiet" input. That said, I'm keeping costs down and working with what I have. Under Input, ensure that the correct microphone is selected, then click on Device properties.I just started with Reaper (and DAWs) a week and a half ago, and at this point I'm not concerned with making pro music, just with building my skills with the software over the next few weeks, so that I can make pro music in the future. Right-click the Sound icon in the System Tray and select Open Sound Settings.Ģ. In what follows, I discuss the solution that worked for me in hopes that it may also help you.ġ. The quality was actually worse than that of the mic attached to my headset and I couldn’t figure out what I was missing. After not having used the mic for a good month, I connected it to my system and started recording, only to find later that the result sounded muffled to the extent that the audio was simply unusable.

The mic wasn’t new when the problem started and its timing seemed completely random.

I myself was troubled by this issue with my relatively unused Rode NT-USB microphone. Just bought a new studio-grade microphone and can’t figure out why its recordings sound so muffled? Got a new headset and are baffled by how low the volume on the mic is even when turned up to the maximum? Don’t worry, you aren’t alone, and while your problem may not be the same as the one others are facing, the only course of action to take in these situations is to try every solution that you can find.
